April showers bring May…

Mother’s, music and marathons – oh my!

Greetings from downtown Todd!

It has been great to see the life coming back into Todd this spring, with everyone coming back up to their cabins, the cyclists back out on the road, the fisher-folk casting their lines and kayakers paddling down the river!  Spring has been a little slow to come due to winter’s hard time letting go this year but the wildflowers are blooming and the trees are starting to turn green again so it’s a beautiful time to be in the mountains.

This weekend the New River Marathon/half marathon and 5K  is running here in Todd!  The TCPO will have a water station at the corner of Big Hill and Todd Railroad Grade road to hand out water, gatorade and encouragement to the runners.  They are looking for volunteers to help.  If you would like to help at the water station just come on by the Todd Mercantile or meet us at the corner around 6:30-7:00am THIS SATURDAY MORNING.This event is always a lot of fun and it’s a great place to cheer on the runners.  If you are out driving the roads watch out for the runners… they will be all over the roads around Todd and Fleetwood.

Looking ahead in May, Mother’s Day weekend is May12th.  It is also the weekend for ASU’s graduation.  You can order your cakes, pies, breads and treats ahead of time to make sure we aren’t sold out when you get to town.  Give me a call if you if are interested in ordering or finding out more on what we have to offer.   Speaking of which, we now have sourdough breads, french baguettes and other fresh baked breads available starting Thursday afternoons and through the weekend.

And if you haven’t gotten your Mother a gift yet – we have some great locally handcrafted items here at the store perfect for every Mom.  Stop on by and see some of the new towel designs by Sue, the turned bowls we have in stock from Hank, or the handcrafted lavender scented heat packs from Evelynn.

On May 17th, make plans to bring a dish and come to our Community Pot Luck Dinner.  It starts at 6pm and then we’ll clear off the tables and kick up our heels for our  monthly CommUnity  Dance right here at the Todd Mercantile.  The dancing will start about 7:30pm if you just want to come to that.   Cost for the dance is 5.00 for the band and callers.
The Laurel Creek string band will be playing the tunes and Julie Gurganus and John Turner will be calling.  They will also have open mic for all those out there who have ever wanted to try calling a dance.

If you or someone you know raced in the Boone Roubaix, you can check out the pictures taken as they rode by the Todd Mercantile here.

If you haven’t stopped by the Mercantile this season, you’ll want to come and check out some of the cool new items we now carry.
Hope to see you soon in Todd!
