Todd is bustin’ out all over this June
With so much going on – you just gotta be here!
Greetings from downtown Todd!
There is so much going on this month and I’ve found even more things a’happening since I sent out the newsletter last week… I thought I would go ahead and send another this week!
This Friday, June 14th, promenade on down to the Mercantile for our monthly CommUnity Dance. The dancing starts about 7:30pm. The Laurel Creek string band will be playing the tunes and Julie Gurganus and John Turner will be calling. Cost for the dance is $5.00 for the band and callers (under 12 free).
This Saturday and every Saturday in June, come out and join the fun making props and costumes for this year’s Liberty Day Parade. This year Elkland Art Center is giving life to the element of fire! Great way to spend time with the kids. For more information call 877-5016.
On Friday the 21st, John Ashburn will be telling his stories of Todd at the Riverside Restaurant starting at 6:30pm. John will be there every other Friday night through June and July.
Then on Saturday the 22nd, the TCPO Free Summer Music Series continues with The Sons of Bluegrass. All the members of the band are Bluegrass majors at East Tennessee State University, the only school in the world currently offering a four year degree in Bluegrass, Country and Old Time Music. One of the ‘Sons’ is Boone native Meade Richter who was named master Fiddler last year. The band has been recognized by the state of North Carolina as a championship Bluegrass band, been featured on NPR and Bluegrass today – and a band you won’t want to miss! The TCPO may even get some Moonpies to have on hand – since they sing the new jingle for them!
The week of June 23rd through June 29th 17 local churches will be joining together to hold a Tent Revival at Cook Memorial Park. The week-long event will bring music every night along with choirs from all the churches and various speakers and preachers from the area.
Speaking of which, I meant to welcome the new Youth Minister for the South Fork Baptist Church to Todd in my last newsletter – but there was so much going on, I plum forgot! So if’n you see them out – give a big ole Todd welcome to David and Sandy Cooper!
Plus the Appalachian Service Volunteers are out around Todd and the High Country for the next 6 weeks working to help some folks in need of home repairs. They’ve been staying at Blackburn Methodist for the time being, but will move into Green Valley School this week while they do their work. It’s really nice to have such caring young people in our midst!
Did you know that Rivergirl has Trashy Tuesdays? Tuesdays at 11:00….. Come help clean the river with Rivergirl and get a free kayak rental! A great family event and a wonderful way to meet other ‘caring’ folks of our rivers. A great cause… keeping it beautiful for everyone!
Don’t forget Father’s Day is coming up on June 16th! Maybe Dad would like one of our new Todd Mercantile T-shirts. If you haven’t stopped by the Mercantile this season, you’ll want to come and check out some of the cool new items we now carry.
Hope to see you soon in Todd!
