Todd is on FIRE this July…
In our pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness!

Greetings from downtown Todd!

The year’s premier event is about to happen so if you are not already in the High Country it is time to climb the mountain in time for the annual Liberty Day Parade. This joyful event starts Thursday, July 4th at the cross roads of 194 and Railroad Grade Road. You will want to get there before 11am because this is not a parade to watch, it is a parade to join in and be a part of!

Elkland Art Center works really hard all year long to make this the most spectacular, creative and inspiring parade ever! They create all sorts of costumes and puppets for everyone to put on, carry or hold before they start the short walk from the field to Cook Memorial Park in downtown Todd. They will also have parking in the field right there where the the parade starts! Meet up around 10:30am to get into costume and line up – the parade starts at 11!

Right now the Art Center is holding a fund raiser to help offset the costs of all the work and the materials involved with putting on such a wonderful event. You can help them out by donating to their kickstarter campaign here.

If it is raining Thursday morning the parade just may be moved to Saturday… but that call will be made at 9am on Thursday. So if you have any questions you can call me here at the Mercantile at 336-877-5401 or if you facebook you can check Elkland’s page, TCPO’s page, Rivergirl’s page or the Mercantile’s page for updates on the parade that day!

Starting at 3pm on Friday, Fleetwood Folk will be entertaining everyone here at the Todd Mercantile. They will be playing on the front porch. Bring a chair if you want or we’ll have a couple benches out front. (some of the parking area will be roped off – you can park at the church lot). If the weather doesn’t cooperate they will move upstairs to the gallery. Come on out and listen to some local musicians that will be sure to have your toes a’tappin in no time!

Then this Saturday, the TCPO Free Summer Music Series continues with local favorites Laura Boosinger and Josh Goforth! These two performers have great energy together and bring it all to Todd when they come, performing old time mountain swing music and lots of old time favorites! Laura plays banjo and Josh is an accomplished musician in a variety of instruments…but when he picks up the fiddle just watch him make those strings sing! The concert starts at 6pm… come by a get some grub off the grill for dinner or head over to South Fork Baptist Church for some of the Todd Ruritans BarBQue!

Don’t forget the Todd Mercantile will be featured on an upcoming episode of North Carolina Weekend that airs on UNC.TV. The segment will air on July 11th at 9:30pm, the 12th at 8:30pm and Saturday morning the 13th at various times. Click here to link to their schedule. Check it out!

If you haven’t been in the Mercantile recently you’ll want to come check out some of our new stuff! We got some new trolls, new puzzles, and this week we’ll be getting more brush critters and candles! Plus, if you haven’t seen Ella Jane’s owls or Ella Grace’s duct tape wallets you’ll want to check them out too!!!

Did you know we have local eggs for sale? They come from very happy Todd chickens. We also are now carrying locally made goat cheese from Heritage Homestead (- which goes very well with our sourdough bread!) and milk – not local but from happy cows!

Hope to see you soon in Todd!

Helen
