Rounding out July…
making news while working on our moves!
Greetings from downtown Todd!
Hope everyone is keeping dry with all this rain we’ve been having this month! Although I reckon more than a few wouldn’t mind getting wet in the river – if’n it would go down to a safe level and stay there for more than a day! There sure have had some gully washers recently that has kept the river up and full of debris!
I want to give a big shout out to Martha, Lexie and the rest of the gang over at Elkland Art Center for another stellar Liberty Day Parade! They all worked really hard all year for this and then made the quick change to another day and pulled it off with such finesse – great job! I took a few pictures of the parade and you can link to them here.
This Saturday, the TCPO Free Summer Music Series continues with legendary banjo player Eric Ellis and his band Ye Old Blue. Eric was inducted to the Blue Ridge Music’s hall of fame in 2009 – and one of the regions most well known banjo players! This band is one of the area’s finest bluegrass bands and you won’t want to miss it – besides you can’t beat the price… it’s FREE! Come on out and enjoy the music of the mountains! It all starts at 6pm!
Next Friday night grab your favorite partner, the kids grandma and grandpa too and come on down for our monthly Community Contra Dance! The dancing starts at 7:30 so don’t be late! Connie Carringer will be calling the dances to the lively tunes of the ever versatile Laurel Creek String Band! No experience is necessary and it sure is a whole lotta fun! 12 and under free – $5.00 for those over – for the band and caller.
If you like the music of the dances – did you know we now sell Cecil’s CD ‘Get Along Home’? Great old timey tunes, including my new favorite ‘Angelina Baker’! Pick a copy up at the Merc – they’re just 12.00 and I guarantee you’ll like it!
The Todd Mercantile was featured on last week’s episode of North Carolina Weekend on UNC.TV. The producer, John did a wonderful job telling our story and the story of Todd… if you haven’t seen it, it’s on their website and you you can check out the piece here. We are the second story in the show. Thanks to everyone who came out and participated in the segment – you all are stars in my book! Thank you!!!
Hope to see you soon in Todd!
