Our dance in December has been canceled due to so much other stuff going on. Our next dance will be January 17th (on the MLK holiday weekend).
Plan to come on down then to the Todd Mercantile and kick up your heels to the lively sounds of the Laurel Creek String Band at our monthly Community Dance! We’ll be doing Contra’s, Reels, Squares, Waltzes, plus a little bit of flat footing. No experience necessary, the caller runs through all the steps before each dance.
Bring the family too!
Cost is only $5.00 for those over 12
It sure is a “reel” good time!

** Greetings from downtown Todd,

A very BIG Thank You to all who came out this past Saturday for our customer appreciation Shop Small Saturday! And to Fleetwood Folk, the Amanda’s squared and John Peterson for entertaining us with their amazing musical talents last weekend! I am still downloading the pictures from Santa’s visit, so look for a link to those in my next email along with links to all the other events I photographed this year.
This Friday evening you wont want to miss the Todd Community Christmas Tree Lighting and “Light up a Life” scholarship benefit fundraiser put on by the Todd Ruritan. It all starts at 5:30 in Cook Memorial Park… come on out and celebrate the joys of the season with hot cider, cake, caroling, lighting of the tree and to top it all off – celebrating with Miss Ruby Trivette her 99th birthday! You can help the Ruritan’s provide a scholarship to at least one high school senior by sponsoring a light on the tree for $5. Proceeds go toward the Ruby A. Trivette Scholarship Fund. Did I mention there will be cake? I’ll be there and hope you will too!
Then on Saturday, Michael and Donna Fox and friends will be here at 2pm to share more storytelling and old time Appalachian music with us. Those who were here for their last appearance saw a great performance and were sure glad they came! Michael and Donna not only play the instruments, but have audience participation and teach us how to play the spoons or washtub, etc. Plus they are quite funny, with hee haw type entertainment thrown into the mix!
With the holiday season I’ll be offering my seasonal treats… various cookies, including gingerbread and of course, my personal favorite – Stolen. I make it with the traditional candied fruit (with or without nuts) and also with cranberries and almonds. Plus, pies, cakes and other breads and croutons.
We have some great gift items if you’re still looking for the perfect gift this season, or if you need a hostess gift for a party with the personal touch of being handmade here in Todd and North Carolina, which supports our local economy and the people in it. We are keeping most items on sale throughout this month so if you missed the sale last Saturday – you can still get a bargain on most items!
As always, we hope to see you soon in Todd!
Helen

Joy, to all hear them singin’
When it’s snowin’, I’ll be goin’
Back to my country home.
